Tori Nelson wants to help
women boxers gain recognition

Virginia's own Tori Nelson is fierce in the boxing ring, ranking number one in the U.S. and number two in the world for female boxing in her weight class.

But believe it or not, she's got a sweet disposition and a constant smile on her face.

"Why do they think all boxers are so mean and evil, we're not, at all," she says. "But that's what they think. But we're not, we're gentle people."

But in the ring she is anything but gentle...

It has been confirmed by www.islandstats.com that the rematch between Teresa Perozzi and Tori Nelson is set for the Berkeley Institute Gymnasium in Bermuda on January 26th 2013.

Nelson was scheduled to fight in December, however that fight fell through opening up the option of a rematch in Bermuda, Teachers Fight Night has been moved up to January 26th to accommodate the rematch for the vacant WBC Belt.

Back on October 13th, disappointment filled the ring inside the Fairmont Southampton at the conclusion of the Perozzi and Nelson - All or Nothing WBC Middleweight Title fight after it was announced the fight ended in a draw.

The pair battled toe-to-toe, landing punch after punch but in the end Perozzi kept her WBA Middleweight Belt and the WBC Middleweight Belt that was once held by Nelson remained vacant after the three judge’s decisions were announced.

WIBA (Women's International Boxing Association) Middleweight champion Tori "Sho Nuff" Nelson will put her title on the line and will try to win the WBA Female Middleweight championship and the vacant WBC title when she takes on Warwick, Bermuda's Teresa Perozzi in a 10-round contest on Saturday, October 13 in Southampton, Bermuda.

The undefeated Nelson (6-0-1) won the WIBA title in her last outing -- an impressive 10-round unanimous decision over Vashon Living on February 11 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.  At one time, Nelson held the WBC championship defeating Lorrisa Rivas by 10-round split decision in July of 2011 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

In the most recent issue of Ring Magazine, Nelson was ranked the third-best middleweight in the world behind Germany's Christina Hammer and Maria Lindberg of Sweden.

This is all the more amazing when you consider Nelson's back story -- a single mom of two teenagers who holds down three jobs. This and other aspects of Nelson's life are featured in a brand new documentary by Jeff Riegel entitled Tori Nelson: Fighting For Her Future.
